Policies for Before and After School Children
The program outlined below provides a balance between indoor and outdoor activities and between sedentary and active play experiences. The staff will observe carefully which children need more stimulation/participation and which need pressure-free activities.
The program is planned to provide separation between older and younger children. Most of the equipment and materials used can be shared by all groups, but not at the same time. Although the children have been grouped according to age, interaction among children of different ages is encouraged by use of the “buddy” system. Our goal is to develop understanding of the family-type groupings, with the younger children evoking sensitivity and responsibility in older children and the older children providing encouragement to younger children.
The staff is trained to be constantly aware of both individual and group needs, and to adjust the program components accordingly
