| Capitol Drive Lutheran Foundation

Many years ago, devoted members and friends began the Capitol Drive Lutheran Church Foundation as an endowment which has been an essential resource for our continuing ministry in the heart of Milwaukee. Today, the Foundation Fund helps support all of the ministries at CDLC. A small percentage of our Foundation Fund is used each year to support current parish programs. The Foundation Fund continues to serve the congregation as it has throughout the life of the church.
Memorials and gifts to the Foundation are welcome at any time. A gift in honor of celebrations such as a wedding anniversary or birthday or a memorial at the time of a loved one's death are always welcome. Your gift may be given in different ways:
Bequest made as part of your will or living trust.
Memorial in memory of family and friends.
Cash donation.
Gift in honor of family and friends.
Planned gift through charitable annuities or trusts.
Beneficiary designation through life insurance.
Planned gifts by means of retirement fund assets.
Any other gift that you would like to make.
Most importantly, you may celebrate the joy of giving as a steward of God’s gifts. Your gift will help Capitol Drive Lutheran Church Sound the Love of Christ today and in years to come. You may also benefit from tax deductions related to your charitable giving.

Fall is the perfect time to think about Stewardship. Farmers’ markets are filled with freshly picked fruit. Jesus talks about another kind of fruit. In the 15th Chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus talks about the fruit that he (the vine) produces in us (the branches) as a logical result of our connection to him.
James agrees when he writes; “Faith without works is dead.” Martin Luther put it more bluntly when he said: “Faith alone is not faith.” We can’t hide our faith under a bushel basket and expect it to flourish. Stewardship is a Christian’s way of exercising our love of Christ and producing the fruit that he nourishes in us. Giving of our time, talent, and treasure transforms our faith into love and our love into fruit. Time, talent, and treasure are the fruitful expressions of Christian love.
On Commitment Sunday, November 22, we are inviting all members to prayerfully consider increasing giving to the church by 5% to support ministry initiatives in the areas of music, youth and family ministry, and the internship program. The additional cost for these ministries is $26,000. The church will seek grants to cover half the cost and will use savings to cover another fourth of the cost. But our hope is that another fourth or $6,500 of the additional revenue will come from an increase in our financial support. If all of us would make a 5% increase, we would achieve that goal. (If a member is giving $50.00 per week, a 5% increase would raise it to $52.50.) Some of us may wish to make a one-time gift for these new programs, and there is a line on the commitment sheet for those who prefer to make a one-time gift.
The additional $26,000 results from these new developments: In the music ministry, they include a community concert, a youth choir, and guest musicians to add diversity to Sunday worship. In the area of youth and family ministry, six leaders are organizing a teen mentoring program, a network for parents of young children, and a Sunday nursery. To expand this area of ministry, the church intends to add a youth and family minister to the staff in 2010. Cost for the seminary internship program will increase next year because of health care and housing expenses.
Many members positively endorse the Simply Giving program by which they automatically make their church contribution regularly from their checking or savings accounts. Please contact the church office if you are interested in registering for Simply Giving.
Some of us may not be able to produce more financial fruit this year. However, there are plenty of opportunities to produce more fruit by utilizing our time and talents in a variety of different programs and ministries. Some of these opportunities are listed on the commitment sheet. A church leader will contact us when we indicate our interest in serving in one or more of these areas. This month we have been hearing from members during worship as they witness about the personal value of church ministries they are currently participating in. We hope their witness will influence more of us to use our gifts in the church’s ministries.
As we prayerfully consider increasing our overall fruit production, we consider John 15:2 when Jesus says that the Father prunes every branch to make it bear more fruit. The mystery of stewardship ministry is that as we give up (prune) something from our lives, God will produce an abundance of fruit in and through us. We invite all members of CDLC to participate in this pruning mystery and bear more fruit.
Our 2010 Stewardship Commitment Form is available for you to open and print as PDF file below. Although the Stewardship campaigns generally occur in November of each year, you are invited to view this form at anytime and prayerfully consider increasing your gifts at anytime throughout the year.
