Nurturing Children
  • TenderCare Child Care Center in operation since 1979 serves children and families of the community with quality childcare. Under the leadership of administrator Pamela Amling, it has gained accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. 
  • Parish Center for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, Church lower level for School Age Program, and Luther Manor. Thirty-five employees provide a safe learning environment for 150 children. TenderCare carries on partnerships with Milwaukee Public Schools, Head Start, and the Social Development Commission.
     
  • Homework Help Program involves adult volunteers from the church and community to assist school-age children enrolled in TenderCare with their homework. Reading is also a part of this program.
     
  • The congregation renovated its lower level in 2002 to arrange classrooms and offices for Head Start. Sixty-four children are educated through this program.
     
  • Sunday School Ministry welcomes children to a Sunday morning experience that uses the Godly Play curriculum to teach Bible stories and invites the children to make personal connections with the story through arts and crafts.
     
  • Summer Day Camp in cooperation with Lutherdale Bible Camp is a summertime feature for area children in grades 1 through 6. With church volunteers, TenderCare staff, and Lutheran camp counselors, a ministry of worship, education, and play is provided to 30-40 children for a week each summer.
     
  • Summer Youth Corps. Eight junior high and high school youth participated in a summer-long work program. Meeting three days each week, the group worked on projects on the church buildings and grounds, gave support to the Summer Day Camp program, and interacted in Bible studies with the older adults in the SPGP. They also volunteered at the Rescue Mission and the Clothing Bank of LSS.
     
  • CDLC and TenderCare sponsored 15 children and youth in the three-week Creative Arts Camp at neighboring ELCA Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The camp concluded with three “All aboard the Peace Train” performances using song, dance, drama, and art.
     
  • CDLC participates with Lutheran Campus Ministry in Cross the Stream. Two college students are matched with two high school students for relationship-building and ministry initiatives.
     
  • A monthly Community Night Ministry began in the fall of 2007.  It  welcomed young people and their families to worship, a meal, craft activities, and bible study.
