Caring for One Another

  •  In partnership with Luther Manor, CDLC has developed a Health Ministry program lead by Parish Nurse, Julie Pekarske. She coordinates the Health Ministry Team that provides education and support for members to improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Julie consults with members, presents educational programs, coordinates the Care Team Homebound Communion Program, and gives leadership to the Sherman Park Gathering Place, a drop-in center for older adults. She and Pastor Timm are also trained leaders for InHealth’s depression education program and are reducing the stigma associated with mental illness through this program.

  • Long-standing friendships among women have been formed through the Women’s Guild. The group meets monthly to work on service projects and socialize.

  • Council meetings begin with a reflective devotion followed by a sharing of concerns for one another and members of the congregation. The result is a group of church leaders who support one another and reach out to those who are in need.

  • The parish nurse, administrative assistant, intern, and pastor meet weekly to discuss pastoral care opportunities in the congregation. The group coordinates hospital calls, homebound visits, check-in phone calls, and other timely contacts with members by staff and other members.

  • Full church staff meets every three weeks for communication and mutual support.

  • The congregation welcomes on All Saints’ Sunday the family members of all who church members who have died during the past years. A service with special music is followed by a time for council members to meet with families and give them a votive candle and nameplate.
