| Sunday Adult Bible Class - The Gospel According to Luke

One Session Each Month
Time: 8:45AM Location: Lounge
The sessions are designed to appreciate Luke's unique telling of the story of Jesus, to mark how deeply Luke's account is grounded in the scriptures of Israel, and to learn from the evangelist's conviction that God's Messiah is alive. Jesus turned his disciples (learners) into apostles to carry the world and work of His reign into the world God so loves. "Learning Luke" could have a similiar effect on you.

Join us for soup and conversation after worship from 11:30AM to 1:30PM on our Simmering Sundays.
October 4, 2009 - Brick-by-Brick. A discussion about our partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania regarding our building of a pre-school there.
November 15, 2009 - Sacred Places: Who We Are, What We Have, What We Do. Learn the enormous value of our sacred place (buildings, etc) as a community asset. See how we can use that understanding to attract new partners and resources to maintain our assets.
February 28, 2010 - The division of the world’s peoples into distinct groups – “red,” “black,” “white” or “yellow” - has became so deeply imbedded in our psyches, so widely accepted, many would promptly dismiss any suggestion of its falsity. Yet, that's exactly what this provocative, new DVD series claims. Race - The Power of an Illusion questions the very idea of race as biology, suggesting that a belief in race is no more sound than believing that the sun revolves around the earth.
March 21, 2010 - ELCA Social Statement “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.” Linda Rattle from the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Racine and the Rev. Jerry Anderson from Redemption Evangelical Lutheran Church will be our guests. Each was a delegate from the Greater Milwaukee Synod to the 11th Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis August 17-23, 2009 and will share reflections from that experience.
April 18, 2010 - Earth Day - Join us after second services April 18 for our final Simmering Sunday of this education year. Members of all ministries are invited to join Intern Christine as we celebrate all of the good work CDLC has done to lower its carbon footprint and care for God’s good earth. The list of accomplishments is impressive! We also will brainstorm the steps we can take going forward. A light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with the discussion following.
A Simmering Success!
Thanks to everyone who made our Simmering Sundays successful this year. We were informed on our efforts to build a school in Tanzania, learned more about CDLC as a “Sacred Place,” continued our “unlearning racism” training, discussed the ELCA’s latest social statement, and brainstormed ideas about how to continue care for creation efforts at CDLC. To those who brought soup, drinks, and goodies – thanks for your generosity. For those who participated and brought your ideas and voices, we thank you as well for your participation. If you have ideas for next year’s topics, please contact Pastor Timm or Linda Jaeger.

As new people and friends discover all that Capitol Drive Lutheran Church has to offer, all are invited to join as a member of our congregation by speaking with Pastor Lowell Timm. Periodically, membership classes are scheduled to welcome new people to our church through bible study and fellowship. A member of the congregation also attends these classes as we pray for each other and grow in the Word of God.
